Flights of Fancy

SheWrites Blogger Ball #5

Extending a warm welcome to anyone visiting my blog from SheWrites Blogger Ball!  I’m new to the world of blogging (so be a bit gentle), and I’m still trying to figure out exactly what I want to chat about here at Flights of Fancy.  At the moment, you’ll find updates for ROW80 (A Round of Words in 80 Days), a writing challenge and community that I’m participating in, as well as discussions about writing and my various works-in-progress.  I’m thinking about branching out and posting more often, maybe about topics like world-building, character development, and historical research, but we’ll see how things go.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you!

Welcome to the SheWrites Blogger Ball!

  1. I’m crazy about your peacock header. I freaking love peacocks. Seriously. I have a patina colored peacock on the mantle in my living room. People give me this strange look when they see it.

Anyhow, welcome to the blogging world! I hope you enjoy SheWrites as much as I do 🙂

    • Whoo-hoo, thanks for the welcome! I’m totally obsessed with peacocks too. In fact, they are something of an inspiration for one of my WIPs, ‘The Path to the Peacock Throne,’ which centers around a society that is organized around bird-worship. Looking forward to chatting more!

  2. Hi, Jamila! Welcome to the world of blogging. It takes a while to find your groove (it did me, at least), but once you do it’s pretty fun.

LOL on the peacock comments. My husband hates them. Every time we go to Omaha Zoo (where they roam free), they get closed and he’s convinced they want to chase him.

    • Hi Stacy, and thanks for the welcome! I’ve got a few ideas up my sleeve for regular ‘theme’ days, but we’ll see if I’m able to carry them out. I’m a little nervous about posting things that might be completely terrible, but I am going to swallow my nervousness and just go with my gut. 🙂

Laughing at this peacock story! I actually remember being ‘chased’ by a peacock as a kid at the San Francisco Zoo. Every time I turned around it was behind me, tail fanning, prancing about and looking very proud of itself. It made me a little nervous, but since then I have been seduced by how darn beautiful they are.

      • Rob says he’s been chased by a peacock when he was a kid, too. I’m not sure if I believe it.

That’s exactly what you have to do with blogging. You can do it!

  3. I, too, have the peacock woo. I work with their feathers quite a lot in my shamanic work and have them spread about our house. It’s great to meet you!

    • Oh, that’s wonderful. I used to have a vase of peacock feathers in my bedroom when I was growing up. One of these days, I really want to get a peacock tattoo on my shoulder, or maybe my back. 🙂

Good to meet you as well!

  4. Hi, I’m stopping by for the blog hop. I have to thank you for explaining what ROW80 means. I’ve seen a lot of people posting updates and I never knew what it stood for. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

    • Oh good, I’m glad that I cleared that up! I’m fairly new to the communities that have sprung up on Twitter and the blogosphere, so I’m still getting a hang of all the hashtags and acronyms myself. 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by!

  5. Hey!

Thanks for stopping by my blog 🙂 It’s great to meet you, glad I found about the Blogger Ball. I too love the header!

    A x

  6. Hi Jamila,
I’m coming from the SheWrites hop, too, and am also a new blogger, although I seem to only get in 1 post a week, so when you say you’re working toward posting even MORE often than you already do (which is so much more than I already do!) you make me feel like a bad, bad blogger 🙂
    Shelley

    • No, don’t feel like a bad blogger! I suppose I don’t feel like my posts have been anything to scream about, as they’re just progress check-ins for the Round of Words in 80 Days challenge. But I quite love your blog, as you have a theme, and talk about interesting things. 🙂

      Looking forward to chatting more!

  7. Nice to meet you.

You know, I’d stopped by here a time or two before. I hope your ROW80 challenge is going well. I didn’t do so well and sort of fell off early on, I think I really had enough on my plate. I look forward to visiting you and your work again.

    • Ah, I know what you mean — I had to drop out of Round 2 of ROW80 a few weeks before it was over because I just had way too much going on in other parts of my life. I’m looking forward to reading your flash fiction and getting to know you.

  8. Hi Jamila, I have the same problem with deciding what to write about, I started blogging with a travel blog, so without the travel theme to keep it focused, my new blog is a bit all over the place. Yours looks great though, I like the look of your writing ideas!

    • Thanks, Julie, and I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one searching for a ‘theme’ for my blog. I think I’ve decided to just write more or less what comes into my head. Maybe after a few months I’ll be able to corral all these wayward ideas into some semblance of order!

  9. Great to meet you! Good luck with ROW80!
